September 7th, 1974: Holy Cow! The New Saturday Morning Lineup Is HERE!

Alright, the air has that distinct autumn crispness, signaling only one thing: it's time for the big reveal! Another year, another September, and another round of brand-new Saturday morning cartoons!

Let's get hyped for September 7th, 1974!

September 7th, 1974: Holy Cow! The New Saturday Morning Lineup Is HERE!

Okay, okay, settle down everyone! I know, I know, the anticipation has been absolutely killing us. It's September 7th, 1974, and the greatest day of the year – the premiere of the new Saturday morning cartoons – is finally upon us!

After months of reruns and dreaming about what awesome new shows the networks would unleash, the time has come. Forget homework, forget chores, forget everything else. For the next few hours, it's just us, the TV, and a mountain of cereal. This isn't just TV; it's a sacred ritual. The major networks, CBS, ABC, and NBC, have been building up to this all year, and our TV Guides have never been more important!

Let's get right into the new and returning champions for 1974!

CBS: New Heroes, Ancient Worlds, and a Karate Dog!

CBS is really bringing some fresh blood this year, mixing it up with some live-action and some seriously cool new cartoons! The buzz is all about Shazam! This is incredible! The live-action show about Captain Marvel transforming from Billy Batson by shouting "Shazam!" looks amazing. It's going to be so cool to see a real superhero on Saturday mornings, teaching us lessons and fighting crime.

And then there's Hong Kong Phooey! He's a dog! A mild-mannered janitor dog who, with the help of his cat Spot, turns into a karate crime-fighter. He drives a "Phooeymobile" and has that hilarious "Hong Kong Phooey, number one super guy" theme song! This is going to be laugh-out-loud funny. Plus, they're taking us back in time with Valley of the Dinosaurs, a show about a family transported to a land full of prehistoric creatures. How wild is that?! Our favorites like Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids and Speed Buggy are back too, keeping the laughs and mysteries coming.

ABC: Musical Futures and Classic Pairings!

ABC is pulling out some big guns, bringing back a classic team and sending another family into the future! Get ready for The New Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show! Tom and Jerry are back with brand-new cartoons, but now they're sharing the screen with Grape Ape, a gigantic purple ape who's 40 feet tall and says his name a lot! This is going to be so much fun seeing all their antics.

And this is really cool: Partridge Family 2200 A.D.! Our favorite musical family is now in the future, traveling around in a flying bus, still making music and having adventures. That's a futuristic twist I didn't see coming! Super Friends are also back, thank goodness! We need our weekly dose of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the gang saving the world from evil. And The Brady Kids are also back for more fun.

NBC: Dinosaurs, Huskies, and Returning Favorites!

NBC is seriously stepping into some wild new territory, especially with their new live-action show: Land of the Lost! This looks absolutely incredible. A family gets stranded in a world full of dinosaurs, Sleestaks (those scary green lizard-men!), and monkey-people. This show looks like it’s going to be super exciting and a little scary too!

They also have a new live-action show called Run, Joe, Run! about a dog framed for a crime, on the run from the military while helping people along the way. Sounds like a lot of adventure!

We're also happy to see Star Trek: The Animated Series back for more voyages on the Enterprise.

Along with the timeless antics of The Pink Panther Show are always a welcome sight.

The Best Morning of the Year, Every Year!

The house is buzzing. The smell of freshly popped toast, the sounds of cartoon theme songs echoing through the living room, and that feeling of absolute pure joy. We know what's coming: commercials for the latest Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle, the coolest Hot Wheels tracks, and all those irresistible sugary cereals. Every jingle is burned into our brains, a soundtrack to the perfect morning.

This isn't just about watching shows; it's a yearly pilgrimage. It's about being part of something bigger, sharing in the laughter, the gasps, and the pure, unadulterated escapism with millions of other kids just like us. 1974 is going to be an epic year for Saturday mornings. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I just heard the "Hong Kong Phooey" theme song start!

What's the first new show you're checking out today? Let me know which one you're most excited for!
