A Warm Haven on a Cold Shreveport Morning at Rhinos Coffee House on Texas Street

It's Virtual Coffee Time Once Again

December 29, 2019, 7:00 AM, Downtown Shreveport

The biting chill of a late December morning in Shreveport always cut deep, especially when you'd spent the night on the streets. But this particular morning, December 29, 2019, held a familiar promise of warmth. After carefully stashing my sleeping gear in storage, my feet knew the path well, practically guiding me towards a beacon of comfort: Rhinos Coffee House on Texas Street.

That familiar walk, the crisp air nipping at my face, only amplified the anticipation. Rhinos wasn't just a coffee shop; it was a sanctuary. As I pushed open the door, the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling breakfast filled the air, instantly melting away the morning's chill. The gentle hum of conversation and the clatter of mugs were a welcome symphony after a quiet night outdoors.

With what little money I had, I knew exactly what I needed: a hot cup of coffee and a warm breakfast. The kind owner and always-nice employees, who became familiar faces during those challenging times, were already there, ready with their usual welcoming smiles. It was more than just a transaction; it was a moment of genuine human connection.

Settling into a corner, my hands wrapped around the warm mug, the first sips of coffee were pure bliss – a simple luxury that felt like the greatest comfort in the world. And that hot breakfast? It was fuel for the body and soul, a much-needed start to a cold winter day. Rhinos Coffee House on Texas Street wasn't just a place to hang out; it was a lifeline, a consistent source of warmth, good food, and kindness when I needed it most. It truly was one of my favorite places to spend the day, making every penny count.

Yours for now Captain Hedges
