The Black Dragon Ninja Clan of Hawthorne Valley (Monsters! Monsters! 2.7 Guide)
Deep within the Zosma-Zimrala System, in the Leo Galaxy, an unnatural mist clings to the bogs of eastern Hawthorne Valley. Adventurers traversing these lands face a challenge far deadlier than common bandits or swamp beasts. A secretive faction has claimed the Fenland Caves, blending ancient espionage with draconic horror. If you are preparing to run a campaign in the Tygerian Isles, introducing the Black Dragon Clan will provide your players with a lethal, highly organized adversary capable of striking from the shadows.
The 8th Century Pact and the Fenland Caves
In the closing years of the 8th century, an elite clan of shadow-warriors in feudal Japan activated what they believed to be a gateway to the underworld to escape annihilation. Instead, they triggered a dormant Ether Dragon portal, stepping through the cosmic rift into the suffocating mists of the Zimralan bogs.
Seeking shelter, the masterless shinobi retreated into the dark maw of the Fenland Caves. Deep within the sunken caldera known as the Coil of Decay, they did not find an empty cavern. They stood before the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess of Decay, an immortal sovereign of absolute ruin. Recognizing a being of apocalyptic power, the clan elders dropped to their knees and swore eternal fealty, pledging to serve as her unseen eyes and blades in the dark.
The Fenland Caves
The Fenland Caves serve as the abyssal heart of the eastern swamp domains, a sprawling subterranean network carved not by water, but by centuries of caustic runoff and ancient draconic magic. Located deep within the most treacherous reaches of the Zosma-Zimrala system's planetary bogs, the caverns are submerged in knee-deep, toxic mud that constantly bubbles with noxious gases. The ceiling is crowded with jagged, obsidian-like stalactites that drip a highly corrosive acid, slowly eating away at any un-enchanted metal brought into the depths.
The entrance is entirely obscured by massive, rotting roots and dense thickets of toxic bog-weed. The local Heimin avoid the area entirely, driven away by an unnatural aura of dread that suffocates the surrounding marshlands. Inside, the architecture shifts from natural stone into something terrifyingly purposeful: smooth, glassy tunnels of melted rock leading down to the grand sunken caldera known as the Coil of Decay.
The Arrival of the Shadow Clan
In the closing years of the 8th century, a highly lethal clan of shadow-warriors in feudal Japan sought to escape total annihilation during a brutal shadow war. Fleeing into a secluded mountain shrine, the clan elders activated what they believed to be a gateway to the underworld. In truth, they had triggered a dormant Ether Dragon portal.
Stepping through the cosmic rift, the surviving clan members emerged into the heavy, suffocating mists of the Zimralan bogs. They found themselves stranded in a hostile, alien wetland devoid of their familiar lords and enemies. Seeking shelter from the toxic flora and the predatory Grinx'qaats, the masterless shinobi retreated into the dark maw of the Fenland Caves, intent on establishing a hidden fortress from which they could eventually conquer this new world.
The Pact with the Goddess of Decay
Deep within the caldera, the clan did not find an empty cavern. They stood before the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess of Decay, an immortal sovereign of ruin whose massive, ebon-scaled bulk was fused with the very stone and caustic pools of the cave. She radiated a suffocating miasma that withered the weaker clan members where they stood.
Instead of incinerating the survivors, the Goddess recognized their ruthless utility. The clan elders, witnessing a being of absolute, apocalyptic power, immediately dropped to their knees and swore eternal fealty. A dark pact was forged in the toxic waters. The clan would serve as her unseen eyes, her blades in the dark, and her loyal Shinobi, extending her influence out of the bogs and into the pagoda towns of Hawthorne Valley without drawing the direct, combined wrath of Rajah Gundam’s armies.
Her physical avatar possesses apocalyptic strength. Drawing upon ancient draconic lineages, her core vitality is immense (Pathfinder base Constitution 25, Hit Points 337). Translated into our Monsters! Monsters! 2.7 mechanics, taking her Constitution plus her Hit Points multiplied by 25, she commands a staggering Monster Rating (MR) of 8450.
Ancient Black Dragon Goddess Stats (M!M! 2.7):
Monster Rating (MR): 8450 (Physical Avatar)
Deadliness Rating (DR): 9
Divine Status: As a true Goddess, her spiritual essence is ultimately unkillable. Should her physical avatar ever be pushed to its limits, her true divine form holds a Deadliness Rating of 10 and an MR well over 10,000.
Damage Profile: All combat damage and breath weapon effects are rolled exclusively using D6s.
Monster Adeptness Skills (Translated from Pathfinder):
Aquatic Stealth & Swamp Camouflage: Unmatched ability to blend into the Marshland Hollows and Fenland Bogs
. Frightful Presence: An overwhelming aura of terror that forces morale and sanity checks for any mortal within her sightline.
Draconic Perception: Blindsight and darkvision that pierce through the thickest swamp fogs.
Special Abilities (Feats & Talents):
Vampiric Acidic Breath Weapon: A terrifying, dual-natured exhalation. A torrent of caustic black acid that dissolves armor and flesh, interwoven with dark necromantic energy that drains the life force of its victims directly into the Goddess. Even legendary wanderers who possess absolute immunity to acid and poison will still suffer the devastating, life-sapping effects of the vampiric drain.
Corrupt Water: She can instantly foul lakes and rivers, turning the surrounding bogs into stagnant, toxic pools.
Acid Pool: Her mere presence causes the ground to weep caustic residue, dealing passive D6 damage to anyone engaged in melee.
The Black Dragon Clan: The Goddess's Secret Service
The Black Dragon Clan operates far beyond a simple band of assassins; they function as a highly organized intelligence agency, acting as the dark "Foreign Service" for the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess
To effectively subvert the eastern pagoda towns and bypass the Imperial Wu Jen wards, the clan is divided into two distinct branches: the human Shinobi zealots and the true Half-Dragon Ryลซ-nin
The Human Shinobi (The Covert Operatives)
Not every member of the Black Dragon Clan is a true ninja or a half-dragon spawn
Shinobi Fighters: Human warriors who accompany the Ryลซ-nin on assignments requiring heavy-duty combat, armed with daikyu (great bows) and trained in blind-fighting to operate in the swamp's heavy mists
. Shinobi Mages & Illusionists: Human spellcasters who serve as advisors to Lord Kurokage
. They use specialized magic, such as the Sense Treason spell, to root out traitors within the clan, and illusion magic to embellish the frightening reputation of the Black Dragon . Shinobi Thieves: Human intrusion specialists tasked with bypassing mechanical security and traps that raw draconic strength cannot overcome
.
The Ryลซ-nin (The True Black Dragon Spawn)
The elite core of the clan consists of the Half-Dragon spawn, who train exclusively in the lethal ninja arts
The Shadow Warrior Spawn: A draconic brute optimized for frontline combat rather than pure stealth
. They utilize their incredible strength and natural scale armor to overpower heavily armored Samurai, wielding heavy weapons alongside their acidic breath . The Intruder Spawn: Optimized for pure espionage, these spawn are always on duty
. They are the ultimate infiltrators, capable of slipping past the Torii Gates to gather critical intelligence on Rajah Gundam's troop movements . The Spirit Warrior Spawn: These terrifying half-dragons blend draconic heritage with illusion magic
. They can walk across the surface of the caustic bog water and utilize the Shadow-Form ability to project a transparent, spell-casting duplicate of themselves into hostile territory .
The Black Dragon Clan: The Goddess's Secret Service
The Black Dragon Clan operates as a highly organized intelligence agency for the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess. To effectively subvert the eastern pagoda towns and bypass the Imperial Wu Jen wards, the clan is divided into two distinct branches: the human Shinobi zealots and the true Half-Dragon Ryลซ-nin.
The Human Shinobi (The Covert Operatives)
Human operatives maintain deep-cover identities within the Hawthorne Valley towns, serving as the clan's eyes and ears.
Cover Identities & Secrecy: Shinobi are strictly forbidden from demonstrating their true level of experience or using skills outside their cover identity, ensuring that enemies always underestimate them
. Caches & Safe Houses: Because being caught with items like metsubishi or a ninja-to is a death sentence, operatives establish hidden equipment caches in public but seldom-visited places—such as a crack in a wall or an overgrown field
. They use subtle markers, like a spot of glue or soot, to ensure the cache hasn't been discovered . Once a Shinobi is established, they serve as a safe house for other clan members passing through . Absolute Loyalty: Operatives are instructed to spy even on their non-clan friends to uncover hidden motives and secrets, serving as a constant reminder that their ultimate allegiance belongs solely to the Goddess
.
Lord Kurokage and the Black Dragon Spawn
The alliance was sealed in blood, but the Goddess demanded a champion to truly bind the clan to her draconic lineage. The clan's grandmaster, a peerless assassin who would come to be known as Lord Kurokage (The Black Shadow), approached the Goddess and withstood her necrotic aura through sheer force of will and dark magic.
Recognizing his unparalleled strength, the Goddess chose Kurokage as her mate. This unholy union infused him with draconic immortality and monstrous power, transforming him into the first and greatest of the Half-Dragons. Over the centuries, their progeny—the Ryลซ-nin—were born into the clan. These true Black Dragon Spawn inherited the lethal stealth of their human ancestors and the acidic breath, scaled flesh, and cold-blooded cruelty of their Mother. Today, Lord Kurokage still rules the Fenland Caves from the side of his Goddess, commanding a hybrid clan of human zealots and monstrous, acid-spitting half-dragons waiting to drown the eastern valley in rot.

The Goddess chose him as her mate, transforming him into Lord Kurokage, the first and greatest of the Half-Dragons. He now rules the Fenland Caves, commanding a hybrid clan of human zealots and monstrous, acid-spitting spawn.
Monster Rating (MR): 2000 (Deadliness Rating: 7)
Combat Dice Pool: 200D6 + 1000
Armor Protection: 100 Hits (Ancient Draconic Scales + Obsidian Armor)
Special Abilities:
Master of the Spirit Warriors: Kurokage can pass effortlessly through solid stone walls and walk silently across the deepest waters of the Fenland Caves.
The Distance Death: Kurokage channels his corrupt inner power through the swamp mist to strike a target up to 100 feet away. The target must pass a Level 5 Saving Roll on CON to avoid immediate, agonizing paralysis.
Goddess's Breath: Once per combat round, he can exhale a massive cone of black acid, automatically reducing all non-magical metal armor caught in the blast to useless rust.
Master of the Shadow Arts: Kurokage has absolute mastery over Shinobi illusion disciplines, casting spells like Face-Blur and Deepen Shadows without expending WIZ.
New Shinobi Spells
These spells utilize kuji-kiri finger exercises and draw upon the shadow magic of the Fenland Caves.
Face-Blur (Cost: 4 WIZ): This illusion alters the caster's features slightly, making them completely unremarkable—neither handsome nor ugly
. The gaze of any witness simply slides right off the ninja's face . Anyone actively guarding an area or searching for an intruder must make a Level 2 SR on Intelligence to notice the ninja. The spell's success depends on the ninja maintaining an attitude of boredom; the illusion instantly drops if the ninja draws a weapon, attacks, or does anything highly conspicuous . Deepen Shadows (Cost: 6 WIZ): This spell slowly and inconspicuously darkens the room the ninja currently occupies, taking a full combat round to take effect
. When completed, the room is as full of shadow and darkness as possible without arousing immediate suspicion (e.g., candles and fires seem to have simply burned low) . This grants the casting ninja a massive +15 bonus to any Saving Rolls made to hide in shadows or move silently within the affected area .
New Shinobi Arsenal
The Black Dragon Clan utilizes specialized tools designed for distraction, entanglement, and silent kills.
Kusari-gama (Chain-Sickle): 4D6. A traditional farmer's kama (sickle) with a length of weighted chain attached to the butt end of the handle
. The user can attack with the sickle blade, club with the weight, or swing the chain to entangle an enemy's weapon . If the ninja chooses to entangle, the target must make a Level 2 SR on Dexterity or lose their weapon/next attack. Eggshell Grenades: These tiny weapons consist of an irritating or concealing ingredient sealed inside an eggshell, walnut, or paper packet
. They do not explode but burst upon impact . They are extremely fragile and will break if the ninja falls and fails a Level 1 SR on Luck . Dust/Ash Grenade: Thrown directly at an opponent's face
. The target must pass a Level 2 SR on Dexterity or be blinded by the cloud of dust for 1D6 rounds , suffering a -10 penalty to their combat totals. Pepper Grenade: Thrown at the face
. The target must pass a Level 2 SR on Constitution or be completely incapacitated for 1D6 rounds due to violent choking and sneezing . Flash Powder: When thrown directly into a torch or open fire, it explodes in a brilliant flash of light
. Everyone looking in that direction must make a Level 2 SR on Luck or be blinded for 1D3 rounds . Smoke Grenade: When smashed against the ground, it immediately creates a localized cloud of thick smoke equivalent to light fog
. This grants the ninja an immediate opportunity to attempt an escape or a stealth Saving ROLL

the Human Shinobi (Covert Operatives)
These human zealots are the unseen hand of the Black Dragon Clan. They undergo brutal training in the toxic Fenland Caves, elevating them to peak-human agility and resilience without the supernatural draconic blood of the Ryลซ-nin.
Base Multipliers: STR (x1.5), WIZ (x1), INT (x1.5), LK (x1.5), CON (x2), DEX (x2), CHR (x1.5), SPD (x2).
Core Trait: All Shinobi gain the ability to use the ninja-to sword and eggshell grenades (dust, pepper, flash, smoke) as standard issue.
The Seven Covert Paths (Choose One at Creation):
1. The Shinobi Fighter
They are not typically chosen for pure stealth; they accompany the Ryลซ-nin and Shadowjacks on missions requiring heavy-duty combat
Weapon Focus: Required to master the daikyu (great bow) and hankyu (half-bow)
. Special Abilities: They master Blind-fighting, suffering no penalties when fighting in the dark or the thick mists of the swamp
. They gain a base level of stealth (Moving Silently, Hiding in Shadows, Climbing Walls) .
2. The Shinobi Ranger
The clan's wilderness specialist. Their primary concern is scouting enemy territory and safely leading clan members through the treacherous, toxic swamps of Hawthorne Valley
Weapon Focus: Required to master the hankyu (half-bow) for ambushes
. Special Abilities: Incredible tracking and survival instincts
. They gain extreme bonuses to moving silently through natural foliage and detecting distant noises .
3. The Shinobi Mage
A generalist spellcaster who serves as an advisor to the clan leader, Lord Kurokage
Special Abilities: WIZ multiplier increases to x1.5. They learn standard combat and utility magic, but their most prized ability is the Sense Treason divination spell, used to root out traitors within the clan
. Hindrance: Because their training is split between magic and ninja conditioning, their spell progression is slightly slower than a dedicated wizard's
.
4. The Shinobi Illusionist
These operatives concentrate heavily on the clan's shadow magic to embellish the frightening reputation of the Black Dragon
Special Abilities: WIZ multiplier increases to x1.5. They learn the clan's exclusive illusion spells, including Face-Blur (making their face completely unremarkable to witnesses)
, Deepen Shadows (darkening a room over 5 minutes to hide) , and False Tracks (leaving animal footprints to elude pursuers) .
5. The Shinobi Priest
Fanatical cultists entirely devoted to the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess of Decay. They fulfill their dark clerical duties secretly
Special Abilities: They can cast clerical healing and cursing spells, and unlike standard clerics, they are permitted to wield one-handed bladed weapons like the ninja-to
. Hindrance: Restricted to wearing scale mail or hide armor
.
6. The Shinobi Thief
The ultimate intrusion specialist. When a mission requires bypassing heavy mechanical security or disarming lethal traps that raw draconic strength cannot overcome, the clan sends the Shinobi Thief
Special Abilities: Massive, superior bonuses to Picking Pockets, Opening Locks, Finding/Removing Traps, and Climbing Walls
. Hindrance: Restricted to padded or leather armor and lighter weapons to maintain their extreme flexibility
.
7. The Shinobi Bard
Often working as a deep-cover "Consort," this operative is specially trained to entertain targets and lend magical distraction to a mission
Special Abilities: They use Voice Mimicry to perfectly imitate guards or nobles
, and the Enamor ability to trick NPCs into falling in love with them to extract secrets or gain access to secure areas . They put on a show to draw a crowd while the rest of the clan infiltrates .
The Shadowjacks (Shinobi Shadow Ninja)
Serving as the specialized elite soldiers and personal guard to Lord Kurokage. They are supernatural, magic-infused entities born of the Fenland Caves' dark energy, stripped of their humanity.
Attribute Multipliers: STR (x1), WIZ (x3), INT (x2), LK (x3), CON (x3), DEX (x2), CHR (x1), SPD (x1.5).
Average Combat Total: 48
Weapons Dice: Shadow Claws (4D6)
Armor Protection: None
Special Ability 1 (Chaotic Spell-Warping): If a foe attempts to cast a spell against the Shadowjack, they must make a Saving Roll on WIZ. If failed, the aura induces them to cast the wrong spell entirely. Roll 1D6: 1) Knock-Knock, 2) Lock Tight, 3) Oh There It Is, 4) Vorpal Blade, 5) Oh Go Away, 6) Take That You Fiend.
Special Ability 2 (Aura of Debilitating Dread): Radiates a localized field of negative charisma. Every combat round, any foe engaging the Shadowjack must make a Level 1 SR on CHR or collapse helplessly in dread for that round. Additionally, a foe must make a higher SR on LK than the Shadowjack does for any hits to strike home.
The Ryลซ-nin (Half-Dragon Black Spawn)
Generations ago, the shadow clan founders mated with the brood of the Black Dragon Goddess. These true spawn conceal heavy black scales, razor-claws, and reptilian features beneath their dark garb. They are the ultimate heavy-hitters of the secret service.
Attribute Multipliers: STR (x10), WIZ (x8), INT (x3), LK (x3), CON (x10), DEX (x2), CHR (x5), SPD (x2).
Average Combat Total: 510
Weapons Dice: Claws, fangs, and tail (3D6 x 20)
Armor Protection: 20 Hits (Natural Black Dragon Scales)
Special Ability 1 (Draconic Acid Breath): Once every second combat round, exhale a massive blast of acid dealing 10D6 x 2 damage. Acid breath can be used strategically to instantly melt through heavy iron locks, chains, or wooden fortifications.
Special Ability 2 (Toxic Resilience): Completely immune to both acid and poison, taking zero damage from their own breath weapons or the toxic hazards of the Fenland Caves.
Special Ability 3 (The Dragon's Greed & Vanity): Easily distracted by humor, completely losing their focus if an opponent successfully beats them in a SR on CHR at the dragon's level. Alternatively, their loyalty can be temporarily bought off with a bribe of pure gold (100 gold pieces multiplied by the dragon's level).

BONUS GMA INTRODUCTORY SECANRIO
INRODUCTION FOR THE GM
Introduction for the GM: Running "The Caustic Baptism"
Setting the Stage: Welcome to the brutal rites of the Black Dragon Clan, Captain. This introductory scenario is designed to test unproven initiates on the western shore of the Big Island of Acrox within the Hawthorne Valley campaign setting. Your goal as the GM is to establish an atmosphere of heavy, suffocating dread, ancient secrets, and absolute tactical lethality before the players even draw their steel.
Managing Player Expectations: Remind your players that survival in the Fenland Caves requires more than raw combat stats. Whether they are playing human operatives navigating toxic hazards or powerful Ryลซ-nin testing their draconic limits, every act of this module is built to separate reckless adventurers from disciplined shadow-warriors. Use these three acts and the epilogue to forge your players' characters into true agents of the Coil of Decay.
Secrets of the Fenland Caves: The Black Dragon Clan
Earl's GM Notes: How to Run the Faction
Pacing the Infiltration: Do not let the players breeze through Hawthorne Valley. Remind them that the Human Shinobi are everywhere—operating as bartenders, scribes, or wandering poets. Every casual question the party asks in town might be fed straight back to Lord Kurokage's safe houses.
Handling Shadowjack Encounters: When the party faces a Shadowjack in Act II, lean into the psychological horror and absolute confusion. Let the players squirm when their high-level wizard tries to cast a simple light spell and instead triggers Take That You Fiend, bringing the cavern ceiling down around their ears.
The Ryลซ-nin Threat: Treat the Half-Dragon Black Spawn as a terrifying apex predator. Remind the players that brute force alone won't always cut it against an ACT of 510. Reward creative players who figure out how to distract a Ryลซ-nin with a clever joke or a heavy pouch of gold (100 GP per level) to buy their way past a deadly checkpoint.
Balancing Acid and Immunity: Make sure your players note the acid mechanics. Let the Ryลซ-nin use their acid breath to melt through portcullises or locked iron doors right in front of the party, setting a high-stakes, destructive tone for the dungeon crawl.
The Caustic Baptism GAMEMASTER ADVENTURE
Prologue: The Unproven The scenario opens in the dead of night at the edge of the Zosma-Zimrala bogs. A thick, acidic mist rolls through the whispering bamboo. The player characters—a squad of unproven Genin initiates—stand before the rotting, root-choked entrance to the Fenland Caves. Stepping from the shadows is Lord Kurokage. He decrees their rite of passage: they must descend into the caustic bogs and retrieve a pristine Black Bog-Lotus from the shores of the Goddess's caldera. Only then will they be proven worthy of the Black Dragon Clan. Kurokage fades back into the darkness, leaving the initiates to face the cavern's maw.
Act I: The Descent into the Coil This act tests the initiates' physical endurance. As they navigate the glassy, melted obsidian tunnels, the mud becomes knee-deep, toxic, and bubbling with noxious gas. The Gamemaster calls for Level 2 Saving Rolls on Constitution for all human Shinobi; failure results in 1D6 acid damage from the dripping stalactites. This is where Ryลซ-nin players shine—they wade through the caustic sludge effortlessly, completely immune to the toxic decay that threatens to eat their human comrades alive.
Act II: The Shadowjack’s Test As the unproven initiates reach a wider cavern, their torches flicker and die, swallowed by an aura of debilitating dread. A Shadowjack detaches from the cavern wall to test their resolve before they may enter the Goddess's presence.
The Shadowjack does not attack to kill. Instead, it projects a massive illusion using the Deepen Shadows and Lesser Distraction spells to simulate a violent, collapsing tunnel.
Players must pass a Level 2 SR on Intelligence to see through the illusion, or a Level 1 SR on Charisma to resist collapsing helplessly in terror.
Any Shinobi Mage who panics and attempts to use magic to illuminate or blast the room triggers the Shadowjack’s chaotic spell-warping aura, potentially casting Take That You Fiend into the cavern wall and causing a real cave-in.
Act III: The Goddess's Due The initiates finally reach the grand sunken caldera. In the center of a bubbling acid pool rests the Black Bog-Lotus, but it is guarded by a territorial Grinx'qaat (MR: 32).
Shinobi Thieves can attempt a Level 3 SR on Dexterity to silently snatch the lotus using a kawanaga (grapnel) from the shadows before the six-legged beast wakes.
Shinobi Fighters can engage the beast directly, needing to out-roll its 4D6+16 combat pool to prevent its venomous bite.
Epilogue: The Mark of the Coil Once the lotus is retrieved, the initiates must kneel at the edge of the acid pool and present the flower to the bubbling depths. As they do, they survive a fleeting, terrifying psychic brush with the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess herself. Her apocalyptic presence weighs down their souls, but leaves a physical mark—searing the twisting, dark ink of the Black Dragon Clan tattoo into their flesh. They are unproven Genin no longer; they are true shadows of Hawthorne Valley.
Insights on Handling the Epilogue
The Epilogue (The Mark of the Coil): Use this final moment to solidify the atmosphere of absolute devotion and dread. Instead of treating the reward as a simple treasure drop, make it a ceremonial, atmospheric ritual. Let the players feel the physical and psychological weight of the Ancient Black Dragon Goddess's presence pressing down on them before the permanent, burning brand of the clan settles into their skin. It transforms a standard quest completion into a deeply memorable, identity-forging milestone for their characters.
Earl's GM Notes: The Fenland Caves Black Market
Master Ren’s Black Market

The Merchant (Master Ren, "The Scaled Broker"): A scarred, elderly human merchant who lost his legs years ago to a dragon's acid breath and now moves around on a low wooden platform pushed by mute thralls. Ren wears heavy dark silks and a wide straw hat, sporting a magnificent black dragon-scale eyepatch. He has traded with Lord Kurokage for decades and acts as the neutral middleman for smuggled goods.

Eggshell Grenades: Smoke, flash, and pepper bombs essential for covert escapes.
Stolen Imperial Gear: Stripped armor and smuggled heirlooms taken from unfortunate samurai patrols across the Tygerian Isles.
Running the Shop at the Table: Emphasize the tension. Buyers don't haggle aggressively with Master Ren; prices are paid in pure gold, rare magical components, or valuable intel. If a player tries to cheat Ren, they find out very quickly why Lord Kurokage allows him to operate—Ren has a direct line to the Shadowjacks stationed in the adjacent tunnels.
INVATORY, HE HAS ON HAND AND HE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO BUY ANYTHING THE BLACK DRAGON CLAN MEBERS CAN FIND THAT THEY CAN'T USE ALSO YOU CAN USE HIM AS A FORCUS POINT FOR UNCOVERING NEW QUESTS LIKE HE ACRIED A MAP TO A SUNKIN PIRATES TRESURE AND WANTS YOU TO GO FIND IT HERE IS THE MAP FOR INSTANCE.
Master Ren’s Black Market Inventory: Complete Esoteric Arsenal
The Painter in the Box: An ultra-rare, ornate wooden case containing a tiny spectral artist. When opened and activated, the spectral artist instantly paints a perfect, highly detailed map of the immediate 100-yard area on a miniature canvas, revealing hidden doors, secret passages, and concealed traps within its range. A prized possession for any dungeon explorer or Royal Cartographer.
Eggshell Grenades: Hollowed-out eggshells filled with specialized tactical powders:
Smoke Grenades: Creates an instant, choking cloud of black smoke to cover an emergency retreat.
Flash Grenades: A blinding burst of light that forces any enemies within 10 feet to make a Saving Roll or be blinded for one combat round.
Pepper & Itching Powder: Thrown directly into an opponent's face to impose heavy combat penalties on their next attack.
Kawanaga: A weighted grappling hook attached to a durable silk cord or chain, essential for silent climbing, scaling pagoda walls, or snagging objects from a distance (such as the Black Bog-Lotus).
Kusari-gama: A traditional weapon combining a heavy sickle (kama) with a weighted chain (kusari), allowing the user to strike in close melee or entangle an opponent's weapon at a distance.
Daikyu & Hankyu: The great bow and half-bow favored by Shinobi Rangers and Fighters for silent, long-range ambushes in the misty bogs.
The Ink of Anticipation: A rare, magically infused dark ink used by master scribes and faction leaders to draft secret scrolls; text written with it subtly shifts if someone with hostile intent reads it.
Poison-Laced Shinobi-To: Blades treated with concentrated, organic bog-toxins harvested from the deep caldera, adding an automatic +1D6 poison damage over three rounds upon a successful hit.
Shadow-Woven Garb: Dark shinobi garments treated with minor illusion wards that help blend the wearer into natural foliage or deep darkness, granting a bonus to Hiding in Shadows rolls.
Smoke-Blinking Charms: Small paper talismans that, when torn, instantly teleport the user a short distance (up to 15 feet) into a nearby patch of shadow or fog.
