Wednesday Musings: Cracking the "New History" Sandbox in Eras Wrestling
THE IMAGE ABOVE IS NOT AVALIBLE IN GAME I CREATED IT USING AI GEMNI AS A POTENTIAL OF ME WITH OUT MY MASK AS TIGERMAN HEDGES!
Introduction
The Hook: It’s Wednesday morning, and to be completely honest, today has been a rough start. I woke up at 5:30 AM, brewed a fresh pot of coffee, and went back to bed until 8:00 AM trying to shake off a night where sleep just wouldn't come.
The Problem: Being under the weather and having your sleep schedule flipped is tough enough, but when you're trying to catch a nap during the day and Uncle Bill wakes you up by blasting the TV on high volume, getting proper rest feels impossible. Running low on energy makes it easy to put things off, but I was determined not to let Wednesday Musings skip a beat on the website today.
The Solution/Promise: To keep the momentum going without burning the midnight oil, today I’m diving into a full review of how I’ve been booking my custom universe in Eras Wrestling. We’re going to talk about cracking open the New History tab, navigating the random card-shard grind, honoring legends like Oakhorn at year-end, and using those saved Power Shards to kick off the New Year with a bang!
What is Eras of Wrestling?
Eras of Wrestling is a strategic, text-based mobile wrestling booking simulator and tycoon game developed by Checkmate Creative LLC (available on both Android and iOS). As the General Manager and chief promoter, your job is to build a wrestling empire from the ground up across five distinct historical eras:
Territory Era (Mid '70s – Early '80s): Regional promotions, gritty brawls, and raw toughness.
Mania Era (Mid – Late '80s): Colorful characters, wild spectacle, and pop-culture gimmicks.
Next Gen Era (Early – Mid '90s): Technical innovation and elevated in-ring mechanics.
Xtreme Era (Late '90s): Ratings wars, hardcore chaotic action, and intense rivalries.
Millennium Era (Early '00s): High-flying athleticism and modern global presentation styles.
The game features deep show-booking mechanics (matches, mic spots, and backstage skits), parody wrestler archetypes, and extensive talent relations dashboards where you manage roster morale, titles, and shifting fan demands.
Pros & Cons: A Promoter's Perspective
| Pros (What Works Great) | Cons (The Real Grind) |
| No Forced Ads for uninterrupted booking flow. | Heavy Progression Grind due to low initial show payouts. |
| Deep Nostalgic Mechanics for classic GM mode fans. | Arduous Shard Process required to complete talent cards. |
| Responsive Developers (Checkmate Creative) frequently updating. | No Manual Control over choosing exact match winners. |
| Fun Daily & Weekly Rewards to build your treasury over time. | Random Shard Drops scatter progress across many cards. |
Strategy Guide: Bypassing the Grind with "New History" Mode
For casual players, unlocking talent sequentially era-by-era can feel like a slow crawl. However, selecting the New History tab right from day one opens up a completely different tactical sandbox:
Immediate Card Shop Access: Choosing "New History" unlocks access to the shop across all Era Packs immediately, eliminating the need to play through each era sequentially just to see new wrestler cards.
Navigating the Shard Mechanics: Buying new packs will drop random shards scattered across different talent cards. Instead of getting frustrated by partial drops, track the wrestlers who are only 2 or 3 shards away from a completed contract. When a pack drops those final pieces, you immediately gain a fresh signing for your roster!
CPU Free Agency & Power Shards: In addition to standard card packs, you can hire new wrestlers directly from the CPU market using Power Shards.
Year-End Honors vs. New Year Free Agency:
At the End of the Year: Do not rush into big purchases. Dedicate the end of the season to claiming your annual rewards and inducting retired veterans (like Oakhorn) into the Hall of Fame.
At the Start of the New Year: Drop your saved stash of Power Shards at the start of Month 1 to hire fresh CPU wrestlers, securing your new roster upgrades before Week 1 even hits the tape!
Conclusion & My Personal Rating
Overall, I give Eras of Wrestling a solid 3.7 out of 5 Stars! I am enjoying it a lot because the booking, treasury management, and roster mechanics feel genuinely real to me as a promoter running an active territory.
While the low show payouts and random shard drops require patience, utilizing the New History tab and saving your Power Shards for opening-day free agency will allow you to conquer the grind—just like our hard-earned 268,525.00 territory bankroll heading into Year 3 with Vice City Wrestling!
And with that said, I am going back to bed and play this game!
