3 AM Whispers: The Calm After the Howl

Good morning, everyone. It's 3 AM here at the cypress swamp cabin in Shreveport, Louisiana, and the world outside is breathing a sigh of relief. What a profound contrast to yesterday's raging storm, when the wind howled like a beast unleashed and shook the very foundations of this old log cabin, waking me and the uncles with its fury.

Today, the 3 AM whispers are entirely different. The storm front has moved on, leaving behind a gentle, consistent falling rain – a soft, steady rhythm drumming on the tin roof. The Red River below, which felt so turbulent just hours ago, now flows with a more subdued, reflective current, mirroring the calming sky.

Right now, with a good, warm cup of coffee in hand, sitting out on the front porch, the sound of that falling rain is all I need. It's a comforting blanket, a natural lullaby that washes away the lingering echoes of last night's tempest. The air is fresh and clean, carrying the scent of damp earth and blooming swamp flora. It’s moments like these that truly anchor the soul.

And in this profound peace, I'm reminded of the incredible truth we find in Psalm 46:10:

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

Last night, in the midst of the howling wind and crashing thunder, we were keenly aware of God's immense power and majesty, His voice powerful even in the storm. This morning, as the bayou settles back into its rhythm, that same power is evident in the quiet, restorative calm. It's a reminder that God is present in every season of our lives – in the ferocity of the storm and in the gentle quiet that follows. He calms the chaos, both outside our window and within our hearts, inviting us to simply "be still" and acknowledge His presence.

Embrace these moments of quiet and reflection today, especially after the tumultuous times. There is immense peace to be found in simply being still and knowing.

I wanted to get this out to you all now, as the bayou has its own schedule. I might not be able to get back online later today, so please know you're in my thoughts and prayers. Have a blessed Wednesday.
