5 AM and a Howl in the Wind: My Louisiana Wake-Up Call

5 AM and a Howl in the Wind: My Louisiana Wake-Up Call

The alarm clock was set for 5 AM, but my uncles have their own unique way of ensuring I'm up with the sun – or in this case, long before it. Knowing I had a stack of blog posts to tackle, I'd mentally prepared myself for the early start. But what I wasn't prepared for was the chilling symphony that accompanied my pre-dawn wake-up call.

It started subtly, a low groan of wind rattling the windowpanes, promising a stormy morning. Then, it escalated. A howl, long and mournful, sliced through the quiet, making the hairs on my arms stand on end. It wasn't the sound of a regular dog, not even a coyote. This was deeper, more primal, carrying a hint of something ancient and wild.

My mind, still half-asleep, immediately went to the old Louisiana stories. Was it just the wind playing tricks, or was something else out there in the pre-dawn gloom? Every gust seemed to carry that eerie sound, making the familiar sounds of my home feel suddenly unfamiliar.

Then, a sudden, guttural snarl followed by the frantic barking of distant dogs sealed it. This wasn't just a storm. This was something else entirely. My first thought, the one that sends shivers down the spine of any true Louisianian, was the Rougarou – our very own werewolf, said to roam the bayous and lonely stretches of land. Or perhaps, something even darker, a mystical black devil dog, a harbinger of ill omen, its eyes glowing in the darkness.

Peeking through the curtains, the world outside was a blurry canvas of swaying trees and whipping rain, but the sound, that chilling howl, seemed to echo from the very heart of the storm. My heart pounded a rhythm against my ribs, a strange mix of fear and exhilaration. This wasn't just a 5 AM wake-up call; it was an invitation to the mysterious side of Louisiana.

Looks like my morning coffee is going to need an extra shot of courage today. And as for those blog posts? Well, now I've got a truly captivating tale to share. Just another Monday in the Bayou!

I have a few things Todo today, so I won't be back on until later.

Yours for now Captain Hedges
