Coffee Brewing, Sides Aching, and Unexpected Company on the Porch

Monday Morning 05/19/2025

Good morning, dear readers! As you’re settling into your own Monday routines, picture this: the gentle (and not-so-gentle) nudge of sleep fading away, the siren call of the coffee maker already echoing in your mind, and a slight twinge reminding you that yes, you did sleep on that weird angle last night. That was my exact scene moments ago.

The quest for that first, glorious cup of coffee was well underway when a couple of unexpected voices joined the morning chorus. My newly adopted Uncles, Bill and Jerry, were also on the hunt for the caffeinated nectar of the gods. Apparently, the aroma had wafted through the house, leading them straight to the source (that would be me, bleary-eyed but determined).

So, fast forward a few minutes, and the scene has shifted entirely. The coffee is brewed, the porch swing is gently swaying, and I find myself in delightful fellowship with Uncles Bill and Jerry. The morning air is crisp, the birds are chirping their own cheerful greetings, and the conversation is already flowing as freely as the freshly poured coffee.

Sometimes, the best moments are the unplanned ones, the little pockets of connection that arise from the everyday. A sore side and a sudden influx of family have turned a sleepy Monday morning into something a little more special.

What does your Monday morning look like? Are you savoring a quiet cup, tackling a to-do list, or perhaps enjoying some unexpected company of your own? Whatever it is, I hope it’s filled with a little bit of warmth and good cheer.

here's what mine looks like this morning.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to your week! Now, if you’ll excuse me, my coffee cup is looking a little empty, and Uncle Bill just started telling a story…

Yours for now Captain Hedges
