Sunday Reflections: Finding Stillness in the Day
Today, as the gentle pace of Sunday unfolds, on the front porch of our log cabin within cypress swamp, it's a natural time to pause and reflect. Often, the quiet moments of this day offer a chance to look inward, to appreciate the week that has passed, and to set intentions for the week ahead.
Gratitude in My New Family
Today, Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Shreveport, holds a special significance as I reflect on the beautiful way family evolves and expands. Caring for my uncles, Bill and Jerry, has blossomed into a full-time commitment, and along with my brother Robert, they have truly become my new adopted family, enriching my life in countless ways.
This Sunday morning began with a heartwarming gesture, a delicious breakfast of pancakes and bacon, lovingly prepared by Robert. His kindness and unwavering support mean the world, especially as we navigate this journey of caregiving together. Thank you, Robert, for starting our day with such warmth and good food.
Reflecting on the Week Past (and the Bonds of Our New Family):
The past week has deepened the bonds of our new family. There have been moments of laughter shared with Uncle Bill and Uncle Jerry, small victories in their care, and a growing sense of connection and love that extends to the support and companionship of my brother, Robert. While there are challenges, the foundation of our relationship as family provides strength and purpose for all of us.
Looking Towards the Week Ahead (and Continuing to Cherish Our Family):
As the new week approaches, my focus remains on providing the best possible care and creating a loving and supportive environment for Uncle Bill and Uncle Jerry, my adopted family. Knowing I have Robert by my side makes all the difference.
Finding Gratitude in the Present (and the Gift of Family):
Today, my heart is filled with gratitude for the unexpected gift of this new family. The love and companionship I share with Uncle Bill and Uncle Jerry, along with the steadfast support of my brother Robert, are a constant source of strength and perspective. These moments of connection are precious and deeply cherished.
A Moment for Rest and Shared Love:
Sunday offers a gentle rhythm, a chance to pause and appreciate the bonds of family. Today will be a balance of tending to their needs and simply enjoying being together, perhaps sharing stories or quiet moments of connection as a family unit.
This Sunday is a beautiful reminder that family is not always defined by blood, but by love, commitment, and the bonds we choose to create. I am incredibly grateful for Uncle Bill and Uncle Jerry, my new adopted family, and for my brother Robert, who makes this journey possible. They all bring so much love and meaning to my life.
Perhaps your morning has been peaceful, filled with the simple joys of a slower rhythm. Maybe you've enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, spent time with loved ones, or simply savored the quiet of your surroundings here in Shreveport. Whatever the start to your day, Sunday invites a different kind of engagement with the world around us and within us.
May this Sunday be filled with peace, gratitude, and the warmth of family.
Yours Captain Hedges
