Sunday Morning Reflections: Navigating Life's Unseen Currents – A Promise of Healing
Sunday, June 15, 2025
Good morning, everyone, from a quiet Sunday here in Shreveport. The gentle light of dawn often brings with it a natural inclination to pause, to breathe, and to reflect on the week that was and the week that is to come. Yet, lately, "breathing" and "pausing" have taken on a far more literal, and sometimes challenging, meaning for me.
My journey with healing fractured ribs continues, a slow but steady climb towards full recovery. While the major discomfort has thankfully lessened, there are still those surprising, sharp reminders if I move the wrong way. And just as that path was becoming clearer, an unexpected tumble down the stairs added a sprained ankle to the mix – another testament to life's unpredictable detours.
But this past week brought another, more subtle, challenge: the relentless pollen. Here in Shreveport, it's been particularly potent, and I've found myself feeling genuinely unwell, with that distinct, rough irritation in my throat from breathing it all in. It's a reminder that even the air around us, something so fundamental to life, can become an adversary.
In these moments of physical struggle, a scripture that often brings me comfort comes to mind: "But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds," declares the Lord." (Jeremiah 30:17) This verse serves as a powerful reminder that even in our vulnerability and when our bodies feel broken or unwell, there is a divine promise of restoration and healing.
As I sit here this Sunday morning, sipping my coffee and taking those slow, deliberate breaths, it strikes me how these seemingly different physical challenges—the healing bones, the mending ankle, and the battle with the airborne allergens—all converge on a similar theme: the profound importance of listening to our bodies, of acknowledging our vulnerabilities, and of finding resilience in the face of unforeseen currents.
Life rarely offers a smooth, uninterrupted path. There will be unexpected falls, persistent irritations, and hidden obstacles. But it's in these moments that we learn patience, gain a deeper appreciation for simple comfort, and recognize the incredible capacity of our bodies to heal and adapt. It's also in these times that the simple act of a quiet Sunday morning, a moment of reflection, becomes a much-needed anchor.
This morning, my reflection is one of quiet perseverance, grounded in that promise of healing. It’s about accepting the imperfections of the healing process, finding strength in vulnerability, and knowing that even when the air feels heavy or the steps are unsteady, there is always hope for a brighter, healthier tomorrow.
What are your reflections this Sunday? How are you navigating the unseen currents in your own life?
Yours for now Captain Hedges
