Captain Hedges' Midweek Musings: Recharging, Trusting, and Counting Our Wins
Wednesday, June 25, 2025
Good morning from the porch of our log cabin, right here in Shreveport, Louisiana, as the sun rises over the serene Cypress Swamp and the steady Red River. It’s the middle of the week, and perhaps, like me, you're feeling that familiar mid-week pull – a mix of accomplishments behind you and the push still ahead. Today, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we navigate this stretch, by recharging our compasses, trusting the unseen currents, and celebrating our small victories.
Recharging Your Compass Mid-Week
After a few days of pushing hard, it's easy to feel a bit off-kilter, or even drained, just like sometimes a compass needs a moment to settle. This Wednesday, let’s make it a point to recalibrate. That might mean a quiet moment of reflection with your coffee, a short walk along the river, or simply taking a breath to reassess what truly needs your energy. It’s about finding that internal North Star again. Think of the Tiger Force Shadow Saga; even the most seasoned soldiers needed to regroup and reassess their strategy after intense operations, ensuring their compass was pointing true for the next mission.
The Unseen Current: Anchored by His Presence
In life, we often face storms that rage around us, or find ourselves adrift in waters that seem impossible to cross. Our own anxieties, fears, or the sheer chaos of the world can make us feel utterly alone, battling against overwhelming forces.
Yet, there's always an unseen current, a divine presence and power that holds steady beneath the surface. Think of the disciples, terrified in their boat as a furious storm threatened to engulf them. They saw only the waves, felt only the wind. But Jesus was with them, and with a simple word, the storm ceased (see Mark 4:35-41). An unseen current of divine authority calmed the chaos.
And later, when they were out on the dark, turbulent sea, they saw what they thought was a ghost – until Jesus revealed Himself, walking on the very water that threatened to drown them (see Matthew 14:22-33). He wasn't just above the storm; He was effortlessly moving through it, anchored by a power they couldn't see, but could only believe.
This is our "unseen current." It's not always a calm sea, but it's the certainty that even when our world is tossed by the waves, Jesus is the constant, powerful presence that can still the storm with a word, or walk us through the impossible. We might not always feel Him, but His power and peace flow beneath all things. Trust in that unseen current; it's carrying you.
Life is full of visible efforts and tangible results, but there’s often a deeper, unseen current at play. Just like the Red River flows steadily, even through various terrains, a profound force can guide us when we trust it. This brings to mind the ether dragons who, through powerful magic, controlled multiverse portals to guide the evacuation to Zimarala. Even when chaos reigned, an unseen, guiding current led to safety and a new beginning. On a grander scale, within the vast cycles of a cosmic apocalypse, even as creation explodes and implodes, there's an enduring cosmic current that ensures continuity and rebirth. When things feel turbulent, lean into that trust.
Small Victories, Big Momentum
Finally, let's talk about momentum. Some days, like yesterday with all the company and cabin cleaning, can feel like a whirlwind. It’s easy to focus only on the big goals, but the truth is, momentum is often built on small victories. Did you get that one challenging email sent? Did you make someone smile? Did you manage to clear just one corner of clutter? Each of these little wins is a valuable step forward. Much like the collective efforts that led to success in the Tiger Force Shadow Saga, where every small objective achieved built towards the greater triumph, these daily triumphs accumulate. Acknowledging them fuels us for the rest of the week.
So, as we move through this Wednesday, let's take a moment to recharge, to trust the deeper flow of life, and to truly appreciate every small victory along the way.
What's one small thing you can do to realign your compass today?
What 'unseen currents' or quiet moments of guidance have you noticed in your life lately?
What small victory are you celebrating today that's building your momentum?
What's one small step you can take today to help you focus on the rest you need for the rest of the week?
Thiers defiantly more to come Laters, this Wednesday morning.
Yours for now, Captain Hedges
