Friday Fry: Shreveport's Heat Wave Has Me Tapping Out (For Now!)
Well, folks, it's Friday here in Shreveport, Louisiana, and let me tell you, the only thing hotter than a main event wrestling angle right now is the actual air outside! We're deep in the thick of a heat wave, and frankly, I'm just about done with it for the moment.
My porch, usually my sanctuary for morning coffee and creative brainstorming, transformed into a solar oven as the sun truly climbed today. Right now, it's a sweltering 92°F, but with the humidity, it feels like a staggering 100°F. The forecast tells me we're heading for a high of 93°F today, and even with a decent breeze trying its best from the southwest, it just feels like someone left the cosmic hairdryer on high. The UV index is off the charts too, peaking at 9, which is just another reminder to stay indoors or lather on the sunscreen if I dare venture out.
It's days like these when the creative well feels a little too hot to draw from. My brain, which usually thrives on conjuring cosmic apocalypses for Nocturnis or plotting Captain Hedges' next jump through a multiverse portal, feels more inclined to simply melt. The energy that typically goes into rewriting old blog posts or planning the next "Recipes from Earl's Kitchen of Chaos" is currently being channeled entirely into trying to stay cool.
So, for now, I'm calling a temporary truce with the heat. The deep dives into King Farion's ancient history, the strategic planning for NWL Sunday Night Forge, and even the compelling shadows of my Neo-Noir campaigns will have to wait until the mercury decides to be a little more cooperative. The good news is that the forecast hints at cooler, stormier weather next week, which sounds like a much-needed reprieve.
Sometimes, even the most dedicated Captain Hedges has to acknowledge when the elements are winning the round. I'm hitting the pause button on the intense creative output and focusing on just getting through this sweltering Friday.
Wishing everyone out there in this heat (or wherever you are!) a cool and relaxing end to your day. As for me? I am going to go get cool! I'm officially signing off from the heat wave battle for now.
