Sunday Morning Devotion: Renewing Strength in Service and Stillness

Sunday Morning Devotion: Renewing Strength in Service and Stillness

Scripture for Reflection:

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." - Isaiah 40:31

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:17

Devotion:

Good morning, friends. As the sun rises over Shreveport this Sunday, many of us, myself included, might find our mornings starting not with quiet contemplation, but with immediate calls to action. My day began long before dawn, attending to loved ones who needed care. In those moments, even before the first cup of coffee, we are called to serve. This quiet act of compassion, tending to needs, is a profound expression of love and truly, a form of worship. Colossians 3:17 reminds us to do everything in the name of the Lord.

Yet, such mornings, combined with the heat and pollen outside and ongoing personal healing, can leave us feeling depleted. This is where the beautiful promise of Isaiah 40:31 comes in: it's not about our own endless reserves, but about leaning on the Lord to renew our strength. It's permission to seek replenishment, to find peace in rest, and to trust that even in our weariness, divine strength is available.

Today, as you navigate your Sunday – whether it's filled with more acts of service, quiet reflection, or simply seeking refuge from the summer heat – remember that God sees your every effort and offers you His boundless strength and peace. Take a moment to breathe, to rest, and allow your spirit to be renewed.

Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, thank You for this new day. Thank You for the opportunity to serve those we love and for the quiet strength You provide even in demanding moments. We ask that You renew our energy, ease our burdens, and grant us Your peace as we seek rest and refreshment today. Help us to find moments of stillness amidst any activity, trusting in Your promise to never let us grow weary. Amen.
