Captain Hedges' Midweek Musings: Blessings in Every Drop
Wednesday, June 18, 2025
Good morning from the porch of our log cabin, right here in Shreveport, Louisiana, as the sun rises (or perhaps peeks through a cloud or two today) over the serene Cypress Swamp and the steady Red River. Yesterday was a busy one, out and about, getting some laundry done and enjoying breakfast at Lovewell. It reminded me how life keeps us moving, sometimes through sunshine, and sometimes through those moments that feel like a gathering storm.
And that brings me to a profound truth I've been reflecting on: "When God sends a storm, just count your blessings in the raindrops."
It's easy to look at a storm – whether it's a literal downpour making the bayou surge, or the metaphorical storms of life that bring challenges, uncertainty, or unexpected detours – and see only the struggle. But if we shift our perspective, we can often find the quiet blessings hidden within. Each drop of rain can symbolize a lesson learned, a moment of resilience, a newfound strength, or an unexpected kindness that emerges when things are tough.
Think of the soldiers in the Tiger Force Shadow Saga, facing the unimaginable storms of war. Even in those intense moments, there were surely "raindrops" of courage, unwavering loyalty from a comrade, or the sheer blessing of making it through another day. Or consider the grand scale of a cosmic apocalypse – it's a storm of ultimate destruction, yet it's also the very force that clears the way for new creation, a blessing of rebirth from chaos.
Even the journey to Zimarala, though necessitated by an evacuation, was made possible by the powerful ether dragons controlling multiverse portals – a desperate flight that ultimately led to a New Haven, a blessing amidst displacement.
Life will always have its storms, big and small. But if we can train our hearts to look for the "raindrops" – the small graces, the unexpected moments of beauty, the quiet strength we discover within ourselves – then even the wettest days can be filled with gratitude.
As you navigate your own day, whatever the "weather" brings, I encourage you to seek out those blessings in the raindrops.
Wishing you all a blessed day! I'll catch you back here tomorrow.
Yours for now, Captain Hedges
