Good Friday Morning, June 6th! The Dawn Chorus and Coffee Ritual!
Good Friday morning, everyone! Can you believe it's already June 6th? Another week has flown by, and we've landed squarely on the doorstep of another beautiful weekend. As I sit here on the front porch, enjoying the still-cool air before the Shreveport sun fully asserts its dominance, I'm grateful for these quiet moments. For me, the dawn chorus of birds outside my window isn't just a signal that a new day is beginning; it's my cue to start the day's first, most important ritual.
My morning routine kicks off bright and early, usually before the eastern sky even hints at the vibrant hues it will soon display. The house is still, save for the gentle hum of the refrigerator and the soft creak of the floorboards as I make my way to the kitchen. First on the agenda, always and without fail, is the coffee.
There's something truly magical about that first rich aroma filling the air – it's like the unofficial alarm clock around here, signaling that warmth and wakefulness are on their way. I'm particular about my coffee, you see. It's not just a beverage; it's the anchor to the day, the quiet companion that fuels the thoughts, the plans, and yes, even the occasional sudden inspiration for a wrestling storyline or a new chapter in Captain Hedges' multiverse adventures.
Once the coffee machine is happily gurgling away, brewing that essential pot of liquid gold, my attention turns to breakfast. This isn't just about feeding myself; it's about getting everyone in the house fueled up and ready to tackle whatever the day throws at them. Whether it's a simple spread of toast and eggs, or a more ambitious pancake stack if the mood strikes, there's a real satisfaction in preparing that first meal. The kitchen fills with the comforting sounds of sizzling bacon, the gentle clinking of mugs, and the occasional yawn from an early riser venturing out of their room. It's a busy time, no doubt, but it's one of my favorite parts of the morning – a quiet, almost meditative dance of preparation and nourishment that sets the tone for the hours ahead.
This morning, as the light strengthens and the sounds of the neighborhood slowly awaken, I'm thinking about all the things that go into building a good day, a good week, a good life. It's often the small, consistent rituals, like this morning coffee and breakfast routine, that provide the foundation. They're the moments where we can gather our thoughts, prepare our bodies, and set our intentions before the rush begins. And for those of us with creative minds, those moments are even more vital. They're when the ideas that kept us up late – like those intense
NWL Sunday Night Forge booking sessions
or the cosmic apocalypses of Nocturnis I'm unleashing for an Open D6 Nocturnis City Campaign Setting – can finally be put into coherent words.
They're are plans for revisiting old blog posts, like my Starfleet Academy series, or picking up the Cryptid hunting cliffhanger at Dracula's Castle, or diving back into Captain Hedges' early Splinter Cell days, can start to form.
Speaking of Captain Hedges, his adventures are never far from my mind. As I sip my coffee, I can almost hear the hum of his starship as it navigates time and space. That sense of boundless possibility, of all roads leading to some multiverse portal, truly encapsulates the spirit of how I approach my writing and, honestly, my life. It's a reminder that every day, every moment, holds the potential for new discoveries, whether they're fictional journeys or real-world experiences. Even a simple Friday morning ritual can feel like the launchpad for something significant.
So, as the day truly begins to unfold, I hope you all have a fantastic Friday. May your coffee be strong, your breakfast be delicious, and your day be filled with positive moments, big or small. Remember to take a moment for your own rituals, whatever they may be, and to appreciate the quiet strength they provide. As for me? I will be just blogging along here on my front porch, creating new content for this blog. It may take some time to get everything back we once had at all of our other websites but I am working hard to get the old blog posts and thier dates back up and running again.
Yours for now, Captain Hedges
