The Glacial Gnome-Kin: Thrívaldi’s Hidden Danger

Friday Feature: The Glacial Gnome-Kin (The Ircenrraat)

"They look like children in the snow. They hit like an avalanche."

We are back from our Wintermis celebrations! While the Troll God Khenn Arrth was busy enjoying the festivities at Castle Cryselle,

we shouldn't forget that Thrívaldi is still a dangerous place.

Deep within the Iron Wood Forest and lurking inside the hollows of Ice Dragon Mountain, a different kind of kin is watching. Today, we are adding a new entry to the Kindred Stats for Monsters! Monsters! 2.7.

These aren't just random monsters. They are inspired by the legends of the "Little People" (Ircenrraat) from Alaskan folklore—ancient, elusive beings who possess earth-shattering strength despite their small stature.

Kindred Stats: The Glacial Gnome-Kin

(Also known in the North as the Ircenrraat)

Description: Hailing from the frozen wastes of Thrívaldi, the Glacial Gnome-Kin are often mistaken for harmless dwarves due to their size. This is a fatal mistake.

As described in the legends of the Ircenrraat, these beings possess supernatural density and strength. They can lift boulders with one hand and sprint across the tundra without tiring. They are not a "swarm" of weaklings; each individual is a physical powerhouse (STR 100) capable of wrestling a polar bear to the ground.

Monster Rating (MR): 100 (CON 100)

Combat Dice: 11D6 + 50 Adds

Deadliness Rating: 3 (High Threat for their size)

Attributes:

STR: 100 (Supernatural Strength)

CON: 100 (Dense, rock-hard flesh)

DEX: 18

SPD: 12

LUCK: 15

INT: 12

WIZ: 20

CHAR: 8

Equipment:

Armor: Thick Polar Furs & Hide (Absorbs 2 Hits). Total Hits to Kill: 102.

Weapon: Bone Spear (3D6 damage) or Unarmed Slam (They hit hard enough to crush armor).

Special Abilities

1. Cold Resistance The Glacial Gnome-Kin is immune to natural cold (blizzards, hypothermia) and takes half damage from all magical cold attacks.

2. Spirit of the Tundra (Snow Walker) Like the legends say, these beings can move across snow without leaving a footprint. They treat snow and ice as normal terrain and cannot be tracked in snowy environments.

3. Innate Spellcaster (WIZ 20) A Gnome-Kin Shaman knows the secrets of Ice Magic. They can cast the following spells by spending CON (which they have plenty of!):

Ice Shard (Cost 2 CON): Deals 2D6 piercing damage.

Frostbite Touch (Cost 3 CON): Deals 1D6 cold damage and requires a Saving Roll or speed is halved.

Wall of Snow (Cost 6 CON): Creates a 10ft x 10ft wall of packed snow.

GM Tactics: The Trap Monster

The Gnome-Kin are defenders of their territory. Their favorite tactic isn't a frontal assault—it's the City Chute.

Since they dwell in massive underground ice cities, they rig the snow above their tunnels to collapse.

The Trap: A player walking on what looks like stable snow must make a Level 3 Saving Roll on LUCK.

The Failure: On a miss, the snow gives way, and the player slides down a steep, slick ice chute. They don't land in a spike pit—worse. They land in the Town Square of the Underground City, surrounded by fifty MR 100 warriors.

If you are exploring the Hearthstone Trail this weekend, treat these "Little People" with the same respect you would treat a Dragon.

Happy Friday, and watch your step—it might be a long way down!
