The Thrívaldi Campaign: A Wintermis Special
Maps, Monsters, and a Lost God in the North
"The snow here doesn't just freeze you; it remembers you."
Welcome back to the table, friends. For this holiday season, we are leaving the scorching deserts and muddy dungeons behind. We are heading North—far North—to a place where the portals are unstable, the trees are made of iron, and the dice are always frozen.
Behold the map for Thrívaldi, The Winter Wonder Lands.
Part 1: The Lay of the Land
This isn't your typical holiday village. Thrívaldi is a rugged expanse perfect for a high-stakes survival campaign. Looking at the map, a few locations stand out:
Ice Dragon Mountain: Dominating the center, this mountain houses an unstable multiverse portal. Since Ether Dragons control the portals (and helped evacuate Troll World to Zimarala), this is a critical junction point.
The Iron Wood & Evergreen Forests: Nature is rarely on your side here. These trees likely have thick bark that deflects standard arrows.
Shadow Frost City: An ominous seat of power in the Northeast, likely home to a corrupted Jarl or Lich.
Crysole Lake: The frozen heart of the region, where the ice is thick enough to support a castle.
The Golden Rule for Thrívaldi: Since we are running this in Monsters! Monsters! 2.7, keep your dice bag light—we are using D6s exclusively.
Part 2: The Campaign Hook — "Lost in Thrívaldi"
We aren't running a standard dungeon crawl this Wintermis. Instead, we are tracking a deity who has gone off the map.
The Narrative Trigger: The Troll God Khenn Arrth intended to attend the Tygerian Isles Wintermis Celebrations. However, he took the portal from Arrth Crossing and—likely due to the interference of the Ether Dragons—was deposited atop Ice Dragon's Mountain instead.
Current Objective: He is actively seeking the Hearthstone Trail to find the castle of Cryselle, where he believes the Wintermis Celebrations are being held.
GM Note: The God Profile
Entity: Khenn Arrth (Avatar of the Troll God)
Deadliness Rating: 10 (God) — Based on the new tables where 10,000+ MR = Rating 10.
Monster Rating (MR): 15,000
Combat Status: Non-Engageable GPM. He is unkillable. Players should not fight him; they should guide him.
Part 3: Friends & Foes
Khenn Arrth did not wander alone for long. Deep within the Evergreen Forest, he stumbled upon a campsite of unique NPCs known as The Keepers of the Yule.
Instead of fleeing, this motley crew offered the God a seat by the fire.
Frost-Claw the Silent: A massive Tygerian Frost-Kin (MR 200) who acts as the group's guardian.
The Toy-Smith Brothers: Dwarves from the Yule Tide Family Cave House crafting gifts for the Queen.
Biblios the Warm: A Wizard (MR 80) who knows the history of the portals and is helping navigate the God to his destination.
The Escort Mission: The campaign dynamic has shifted. Your players are no longer just dealing with a lost God; they are dealing with a God who is protecting his new friends. If a player tries to steal a toy from the Dwarves? The Troll God frowns. (You do not want him to frown).
Part 4: The Destination — Castle Cryselle
Where are they all heading? To the northern shores of Crysole Lake, to the castle of Queen Isdis.
The NPC: Queen Isdis (The Frost Sovereign)
Deadliness Rating: 8 (Legendary)
Monster Rating: 4,500
Special Power: The Absolute Zero. She can freeze any being without Deadliness Rating 5+ instantly.
Isdis is currently preparing for a dignified gathering of dignitaries. She does not know that a 15,000 MR Troll God and his entourage are about to crash her party.
Part 5: The Grand Arrival
And finally, we have visual confirmation from the front lines. The escort mission was a success.
The Convergence: As you can see in this final image, the "Fellowship of the Freeze" has assembled.
The Scale: Notice how Khenn Arrth towers over the massive Frost Tyger and the human-sized Elf Warrior. This is a visual representation of the difference between a Monster Rating of 200 and a Monster Rating of 15,000.
The Atmosphere: The aurora borealis of Thrívaldi shines above Castle Cryselle in the background.
The confrontation at Cryselle won't be a battle—it will be a parade. The only question left for your players is: Who is brave enough to knock on Queen Isdis's door and tell her that her biggest guest has arrived early?
Happy Wintermis to all, and may your D6s roll high!
