3 AM Whispers: The Opening of the Hedge Gate
The swamp is darkest right before the moon breaks the tree line.
It’s 3:17 AM. Down here in the bottoms, the water is just black glass, reflecting the ancient cypress silhouettes. The air is thick, heavy with moss and secrets.
And then, the alignment happens.
The waning crescent moon drags itself above the canopy—a sharp, silver hook in the night sky. That specific frequency of moonlight cuts through the humid darkness and strikes the brass fittings of The Scope of the True Meridian, perched out here on a moss-covered log.
You can almost feel the low, subsonic hum vibrate through the water as the reality of the swamp shifts.
It doesn't just tear a hole in the air. The magic reveals what was always hidden in the dense undergrowth. The shadows coalesce into form: a heavy, rustic wooden door, bound in iron hinges, set right into a thick, thorny hedge that appeared out of nowhere.
This is the true Hedge Gate.
The door swings open, revealing the swirling, violet current of the multiverse beyond our world. The Ether Dragons are drifting on the tides just past the threshold, waiting in Zimrala.
For the rest of Shreveport, it’s just another quiet Wednesday morning before dawn. But out here in the deep whispers? The door is open. The journey is just beginning.
