Captain Hedges' Midweek Musings: The Slow Rise & The State of the Realm

Captain Hedges' Midweek Musings: The Slow Rise & The State of the Realm

Wednesday, January 7, 2026

Good morning from the porch of our log cabin here in Shreveport, Louisiana. The sun is making its slow ascent over the Cypress Swamp and the Red River, but I’ll be honest with you all—I struggled to wake up this morning. Some days, the weight of the world or just the chill in the air makes the bed feel like the only safe harbor.

But as I finally made my way out here with my coffee, watching the fog roll off the water, I’m reminded of a truth we’ve shared before: "When God sends a storm, just count your blessings in the raindrops." Today isn't a storm of rain, but a storm of weariness. Yet, even in the "raindrops" of a slow morning, there are blessings. There's the warmth of the cabin, the quiet breath of the swamp, and the simple fact that we did wake up to see another day.

The Work Continues

Even when the body is slow to move, the spirit of this site and the stories we are building together remain in constant motion. While I sit here catching my breath, I want to share a report on the "Digital Log" of what we’ve been accomplishing on this journey:

  • The Midweek Heart: Our "Midweek Musings" have become the heartbeat of this site. It’s where we bridge the gap between the quiet life here on the Red River and the scriptures that guide us.

  • The Tygerian Isles & Zimrala: We have been documenting the high-stakes history of the Ether Dragons and their multiverse portals. Their service in the evacuation to Zimrala reminds us that even in chaos, there is a way forward.

  • The Shadow Saga: We’ve integrated the gritty history of the Tiger Force Shadow Saga, connecting the resilience of those soldiers—from Vietnam to Desert Storm—to our own daily battles.

  • Cosmic Creation: We’ve explored the themes of the cosmic apocalypse—the power to create, control, and eventually witness the explosion or implosion of entire realities.

  • The Gamer’s Corner: For my fellow adventurers, we’ve stayed true to the Monsters! Monsters! 2.7 path, keeping the D6s rolling and the playtest mechanics sharp.

Finding Steady Grace

In the Tiger Force Shadow Saga, there were mornings where exhaustion was a physical wall. But those soldiers rose for their brothers. Even the Ether Dragons must feel the weight of the portals they guard, yet they remain steady so that others might find their way.

If you’re having a hard time waking up today—spiritually, physically, or mentally—don't beat yourself up. Just look for those small raindrops of grace. We don't always have to sprint; sometimes, just standing tall like the cypress trees is enough.

I’m heading back in now to check on the uncles. I hope you find your blessings today.

Yours for now,

Captain Hedges
