Year of the Snake: Day 16 – Bonus File: The Smuggler’s Manifest

By Captain Hedges

Log Date: January 16, 2026 Status: FINAL UPLOAD BEFORE LOCKDOWN

One last file before I go dark for the inspection. A Smuggler is nothing without a ship, and a ship is nothing without a crew.

If you are rolling up a Rim-Sector Grifter or a Blockade Runner, here is your home.

Ship Lore: The Penitent Thief was originally a pilgrim transport for the Order of the Lion, designed to carry priests to the outer rim. You "acquired" it in a game of Sabacc. You kept the religious name because it confuses the Imperial customs scanners, but you gutted the prayer room and turned it into a shielded cargo hold for smuggling Aetherium and contraband.

THE CREW (PC/NPCs)

Every Captain needs a crew they can trust... mostly.

1. The Co-Pilot/Muscle: "Garrus the Broken"

  • Species: Leonine (Outcast)

  • Role: Heavy Weapons / Intimidation

  • Profile: A former Star Knight who lost his wings (and his honor) in a duel he shouldn't have fought. He is 7 feet of scarred muscle and cynicism. He hates the Ophidians, but he hates the "Self-Righteous" Order even more. He sticks with you because you don't judge him.

  • Quirk: Sharpens his vibro-axe when he's nervous.

2. The Chief Engineer: "Sprocket" (Real Name: Kaelin)

  • Species: Space Dwarf (Duergar)

  • Role: Repairs / Shields / Demolitions

  • Profile: A genius mechanic who speaks better Binary than Common. She keeps the The Penitent Thief flying with duct tape, prayers, and illegal parts scavenged from the Junker System. She has a bounty on her head for blowing up a mining guild foreman's office (allegedly).

  • Quirk: Talks to the ship like it's a pet cat. "Easy girl, don't blow the gasket yet."

3. The Ship's "Doc": Dr. Silas Vane

  • Species: Human (Void-Touched)

  • Role: Medic / Science / Moral Compass (Broken)

  • Profile: A former combat medic for the Fleet who saw too much in the Maw. His hands shake until the surgery starts—then he is rock steady. He is addicted to pain-killers but is the best surgeon in the rim. He pays his passage by patching up the crew and keeping the bio-scanners running.

  • Quirk: Always wears sunglasses, even in the dark (his eyes are sensitive to the Arial light).

End Transmission. See you all after the Inspection.
